It seems like there is a "National/International Day Of...." for EVERYTHING these days. While it's kind of fun to have another reason to head to the beach (National Beach Day is August 30th), there are a few days that can remind us to make a big difference. September 5th became the International Day of Charity back in 2012 in remembrance of the death of Mother Teresa and her dedication to serving the underprivileged. Her continuous efforts to alleviate poverty and suffering have inspired countless individuals and organizations around the globe.
While thinking of ways you can give back your time or resources to those going through a difficult situation, consider supporting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). They have developed a unique way to raise funds and reduce waste. Their electronics recycling program takes donated cell phones and devices and refurbishes them, with the resale proceeds going directly to support survivors.
Not only does this program help keep electronics out of landfills, but it also provides critical funds for resources and services that empower those affected by domestic violence.
I don't know about you, but I have multiple electronics stacking up in my office because I know I can't put them in the regular trash and my local electronic collection dates haven't lined up with my schedule. The NCADV makes it easy and convenient to responsibly get rid of my outdated devices. Every device donated helps provide essential services like housing, legal assistance, and counseling to those in need. Plus, it’s a simple and impactful way to contribute to a more sustainable world.
This year, make a lasting impact by participating in NCADV’s electronics recycling program. Your old phone can become a lifeline for someone in need.
